    Let's Hear Some Good News!

    Please let us hear about your college graduation. We know there were quite a few.

    Congratulations to Rhonda Williams Bagshawe (Class of 1983). She received her MAT in Middle Grade Social Studies on Saturday, May 11, 2013 from NCSU. Rhonda also has a Business Degree and a Law Degree from UNC.

    Congratulations to Mary Hannah Ross(Class of 2009). Mary Hannah graduated from NCSU in December 2012 with a degree in Human Biology and a minor in Spanish. She will enter Pharmacy School at Campbell University in the fall. She is the daughter of Paul and Mary Falkner Ross(Class of 1984).

    David Wilkinson Dies after Short Illness

    Our deepest sympathy goes out to Lauren Wilkinson, former KVA student, and her mom, Vicki Wilkinson, who taught at KVA. David died on Wednesday.

    OXFORD — David Scott Wilkinson, age 56, died Wednesday, May 8, 2013, after a brief battle with cancer.

    He was the son of Dorothy Gupton Wilkinson and the late George Propus “G.P.” Wilkinson. David was an employee with Ryder Transportation Services for over 36 years. He was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church. He loved to hunt and was a member of Providence Sporting Club. David also coached softball.

    Memorial service will be held at Mt. Zion Baptist Church at 2 p.m. on Friday, May 10, 2013, by the Rev. Keith Williams and Dr. Steven Bolton.

    Surviving is his wife, Vicki Oakley Wilkinson; his daughter, Lauren Victoria Wilkinson of the home; and a stepson, Steven Robert Light of Washington, D.C.

    In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society at P.O. Box 22718, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma 73123-1718; or to the Granville County Animal Shelter at 5650 Cornwall Road, Oxford, NC 27565.

    Lindsay Gupton's Dad Dies

    Our deepest sympathy goes out to Lindsay Gupton(Class of 2006) and the Gupton Family. Lindsay's dad died on Friday, April 5th. Earl,her dad, had been very ill for a while.

    His sister is our own Patsy Gardner.

    Bobby Rogers Dies

    Kerr-Vance Academy extends their deepest sympathy to the family of Bobby Rogers,especially his wife,Kim, his children, and grandchildren. Brett and Cameron are a part of KVA at this time.

    Bobby Wayne Rogers, 78, of 2039 Valley View Drive, Henderson, NC died Wednesday, February 27, 2013 at his home.

    Born in Vance County on June 19, 1934, he was the son of the late Hartwell Biscoe Rogers and Rena Gentry Rogers.

    Bobby graduated from Henderson High School in 1952, whereupon he entered the United States Navy. After declining a commission to the U.S. Naval Academy, Bobby received his honorable discharge from the Navy in 1955. He then enrolled at North Carolina State College where he graduated in 1959 with a degree in Civil Engineering. He worked full-time for the U.S. Bureau of Ships while attending law school at George Washington University.

    Bobby returned to Henderson in 1963 and began practicing law. He was the Prosecuting Attorney in Vance County Recorder’s Court. He also served in the North Carolina House of Representatives from 1970 to 1976, and was a member of the Board of Trustees at Vance Granville Community College from 1977 to 1989. Governor Jim Hunt awarded Bobby the Order of the Long Leaf Pine Award in 1995. Bobby loved his family, North Carolina State College, practicing law, thoroughbred horses, and the Democratic Party.

    Funeral services were held Sunday, March 3, 2013 at 4:00 p.m., at First United Methodist Church, conducted by Dr. John Check. Burial followed at Sunset Gardens.

    Left behind to cherish his memory are his wife, Kim Johnson Rogers; his children, Sam Rogers of Boone, NC, Mike Rogers and wife Camilla, of Henderson, Matt Rogers and wife Angie of Henderson, Justin Roberson(KVA Class of 2004)and wife Ashley of Youngsville, NC, Morgan Roberson(KVA Class of 2006) and friend John Cash of Henderson, Beth Pugh and husband Curtis of Stovall, NC, and Colin Roberson (KVA Class of 2009) of Greenville, NC; his grandchildren, Lauren Thorpe and husband Tyler of Chapel Hill, NC, Megan Rogers of Henderson, Cameron Rogers of Henderson, Bret Rogers of Henderson, Leigh Talley of Henderson, Matthew Cash of Henderson, and the most recent “light of his life” Ty Roberson of Youngsville, NC; two brothers, H.B. Rogers of Raleigh, NC and Steve Rogers and wife Shirley of Hampstead, NC; his mother- and father-in-law, Betty and Jim Johnson of Henderson; sister-in-law, Amy Johnson of Henderson; nieces, Katie Steg and Holly Steg, both of Henderson; nephew Christopher Steg of Henderson; brother-in-law, Jimmy Johnson of New York, NY; and longtime family friend, Myrtle Lloyd of Henderson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Rena “Bebe” Perry and a brother, Gary Rogers.

    The family received friends Sunday from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m., in the Parlor at First United Methodist Church. Serving as active pallbearers were Jerry Stainback, J.H. Hughes, John Zollicoffer, Mike Satterwhite, Donnie Pergerson, Charles Davis, Gene Edmundson, J. Henry Banks, and Boyd Sturges. Members of the 9th Judicial District Bar served as honorary pallbearers.

    Memorials may be made to the church or charity of one’s choice.
