I am sad to report that the Kerr-Vance community lost a dear friend, teacher, and colleague on Thursday evening. Mr. Mike Dawson passed away after a courageous fight with cancer. Mike experienced the love of family and friends in his last hours and we know that he is finally at peace.
Mike was a kind, humble man. He had a great sense of humor and never seem to get rattled by “life at the speed of school.” He was an outstanding teacher who made a difference in the lives of students at Kerr-Vance for over thirty years. He was the longest tenured teacher at our school. Mike knew math. He made sure that his students knew math, even if he had to model problems on the classroom walls. He did what it took to help every student succeed. Former students tell me quite often how much a difference Mike made in their abilities to handle college-level math. Former players share stories of a great baseball coach who taught them more than just the fundamentals of the sport. Mike Dawson’s impact as a teacher and coach will live on through those he touched.
We extend our condolences to Mike’s family during this difficult time. We know that they cherish many memories of a great man.
Godspeed Mike Dawson. We will miss you!
